The Roastmaster - Tribute to Bob Hope
Zoom
David's Inspiration

"I depicted him (Bob Hope) during the 1970s, when he would be on television hosting roasts of other stars and annual specials. I have a picture of him in that shirt with a plaid jacket - just as much confusion and clashing as possible, that's what '70s attire was about. The painting has the feel of a black and white picture that has yellowed, like you used to see happen to old newspaper clippings. A lot of people talk about Bob Hope's nose and his nose is big, but his chin out-extends his nose, which is what you see in the painting."

Original oil on canvas.
