David's Inspiration

"I painted "The Field General - Tribute to Peyton Manning" for Super Bowl XLIV when we had our temporary gallery in Miami. He's an old-school type quarterback. I think of him as similar to Johnny Unitas, and in one game he did try to wear the high-top cleats that Unitas used to wear and I painted him in those cleats. I've watched him play football so much that it was just all drawn out of my head. He is such a talented quarterback and he just seems so unathletic when you see him standing there. I tried to capture that posture and look he has."
