David's Inspiration:
Clint Eastwood as
Dirty Harry has been on our requested list from fans and it's one of
my favorites, so it was a joy to do. I did it around the same time as the
Marilyn Monroe and again I used sepia tones to add to the nostalgia of the
piece. I didn't want to use a photo, I bought the movie - since I always wanted
it anyway - and watched it over and over. I wanted to capture the whole
essence of the movie in the image, with Dirty Harry kind of being in your
face. I wanted to have him aggressively coming out at you, pointing his
.44 Magnum. I did a lot of the sketches while I re-watched the famous
""feeling lucky"" scene and the one at the end on the bank
of the river with the killer. I also photographed myself holding
our neighbor's toy gun pointing right at the camera and then drew
from that. The movie came out in 1971, so that is how many there are in
our limited edition.
